SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Stedman Mathis ran for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns as James Kenan blanked Midway on Friday night, 38-0.

With the road victory, the Tigers improved to 6-2 overall (2-0 conference) after opening the season 0-2. The Raiders fell to 3-4 (0-2 conference) with the loss.

The Tigers' Jason Kennion had a huge game on both sides of the ball, catching two passes for 83 yards and a touchdown, plus had seven tackles, a safety, two interceptions and three pass deflections at defensive back.

Kennion's safety opened the onslaught as Mathis rumbled 60 yards for a touchdown on James Kenan's ensuing possession to give the visitors a 10-0 lead after one quarter of play.

Tigers quarterback Shawn Jones found Ronnie Williams for a 29-yard score just before halftime to up Kenan's advantage to 16-0 at the break.

Jones completed just 3-of-8 passes, but two went for touchdowns as he finished with 117 yards through the air.

Kennion hauled in a 54-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter, and Mathis turned the contest into a blowout with a 50-yard TD run to make the score 30-0 going into the final period.

On his only carry of the night, Marcus Sloan rounded out the scoring with a 78-yard touchdown run.
