Record day for MOC women
WINSTON-SALEM -- Gina Dos Santos scored a goal 25 seconds into the match and Mount Olive set a school record for most goals in a match as the Trojans defeated Salem 13-0 in non-conference women's soccer Wednesday at Winston-Salem.
The win is the Trojans' fifth in their last six matches.
Mount Olive (9-5-0) led 9-0 at halftime as the Trojans emptied their bench and played much of the half with only 10 players. Mount Olive played most of the second half with only nine players and even platooned goalkeepers Ali O'Steen and Heather Ulep in field positions. O'Steen scored two goals and Ulep added a goal.
The Trojans' previous record for most goals in a match was 12, set last year against Averett. Mount Olive has outscored its last six opponents by a 30-3 margin.
Mount Olive resumes Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference play Saturday as the Trojans travel to Charlotte to take on Queens. Mount Olive defeated Queens 6-2 last year for the Trojans' first-ever win over the Royals. Match time is 1 p.m.

suffer road loss
FLORENCE, S.C. -- Francis Marion University sophomore Jonathan Bartomioli and freshman David Simpson scored goals and senior goalkeeper Jonathan Runion made five saves to give the Patriots a 2-0 win over nationally 22nd-ranked Mount Olive College Wednesday in non-conference action.
FMU improved to 7-5 and snapped a four-game losing skid to nationally ranked opponents. The Trojans, which last week was ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, suffered its third straight shutout and dropped to 8-3-1.
Bartomioli scored his team-leading sixth goal on a 22-yard blast only 11:08 into the match on an assist from Biaglo Galle. Simpson scored his first career goal at 48:42 when he took a free kick from Matt Harris and knocked the ball into the goal.
Mount Olive outshot Francis Marion 10-6 with its best chance coming five minutes into the match when Reid Clewis pounded a shot off the crossbar from the close left wing. The Trojans also held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Runion registered his 12th career shutout. Mount Olive goalie Chris Roush did not record a save as FMU scored on both of its shots on goal.
Mount Olive returns to Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference action on Saturday at Queens University in Charlotte. Match time is 3 p.m.
