Friday's games

D.H. Conley (2-1) at Eastern Wayne (3-0)A pair of Class 3-A teams coming off of road wins. Eastern Wayne won a thriller, 17-14 at Wilson Fike, while Conley throttled North Pitt 54-6 in Bethel. Bruiser Al Graham (96 yards-per-game, 6 TDs) is turning in another consistent season in the Warrior backfield as Eastern Wayne has reached recently uncharted territory at 3-0. The Vikings could be the Warriors biggest test yet, but playing in New Hope for the first time in September should be a boost.

Wilson Fike (0-3) at C.B. Aycock (2-2)

PIKEVILLE -- Coming off of a big offensive output against Goldsboro, Aycock looks to keep Fike winless and hand the Golden Demons their second-straight loss to a Wayne County team. Five different Falcons scored touchdowns last week at the Cougar Den and more of that balance would prove huge back home at Hardy Talton Stadium. Stopping versatile Fike quarterback Marcus Johnson will be key for the Aycock defense.

Greene Central (1-3) at Kinston (0-4)

KINSTON -- A tough, non-conference schedule hasn't been kind to Greene Central, while Kinston has lost to two Lenoir County rivals -- South Lenoir and North Lenoir -- on their way to an 0-4 start under first-year coach Ken Whitehurst. Both teams are two weeks away from the beginning of conference play, so it's important for both to get on the right track on both sides of the ball. Friday will be the first-ever meeting between two schools, separated by a mere 13 miles.

West Craven (1-2) at North Lenoir (1-2)

LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir is 0-2 at home this year and the Hawks will be looking for their first win in Wheat Swamp against a West Craven squad, who defeated Kinston in Vanceboro last Friday. The Eagles, now 1-1 against Lenoir County teams in 2005, played through injuries to their starting quarterback and tailback in the win over the Vikings last week. The Hawks didn't complete a pass last week against South Lenoir and will need increased balance to defeat West Craven.

Saturday's game

North Duplin (0-2) at Holly Ridge Dixon (0-2)

HOLLY RIDGE -- Something's got to give in this clash of two winless, 1-A foes. The Rebels have been close, losing by a combined 12 points to Chatham Central and Hampstead Topsail. However, Dixon has been outscored 90-6 in two lop-sided defeats to Swansboro and Heide Trask. The Rebels should be able to get out of Onslow County with their first victory. This game was moved to Saturday due to Hurricane Ophelia.
