Latoria Harvey awarded all-conference honors

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mount Olive College women's basketball player Latoria Harvey has earned all-conference honors for the second year in a row as she was named to the 2004-05 All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball team released Thursday.

A senior from Ivanhoe, Harvey averaged a double-double for the season with 12.9 points and 10 rebounds per game. Harvey recorded 14 double-doubles this season and reached double figures in points or rebounds in every CVAC contest.

Harvey scored a career-high 33 points to go with nine rebounds and six steals in a win against Pfeiffer in mid-January on her way to CVAC Player of the Week honors. She also tallied 23 points and 16 rebounds in Mount Olive's win over Limestone Monday in the first round of the CVAC Tournament.

She finishes her four-year career at Mount Olive with 1,104 points.

Mount Olive posted a 12-16 record in 2004-05 and tied for sixth in the CVAC standings with a 9-11 mark. The Trojans were eliminated by Barton Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the CVAC Tournament.

Lashonda Chiles of Anderson was named player of the year, while Stephanie Mullinax of Lees-McRae was named freshman of the year. Anderson's Kevin Pederson earned coach of theyear honors.

Oxendine an Osborne finalist

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Chasity Oxendine, a volleyball and basketball athlete at Mount Olive College, has been named a finalist for the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Murphy Osborne Award.

The award recognizes the top senior student-athlete in the conference for excellence in academics, athletics and community service.

Oxendine, a senior from Vass, has a 3.54 cumulative grade-point average and will graduate in May with a degree in mathematics. She is a two-time All-CVAC first team selection in volleyball and helped lead Mount Olive to regional top 10 finishes in each of the last three years, including the Trojans' first-ever NCAA Division II post-season appearance this past fall.

She also lettered in basketball at Mount Olive. Volunteer activities include serving as a coach for several AAU basketball teams.

Jessica Martin, a cross country student-athlete from Erskine College, was named the winner of the 2005 Murphy Osborne Award.
