WILMINGTON - Fernando Crisosto, Gabriel Garcia and Camilo Sabogal won singles matches, and Mount Olive won 2-of-3 doubles matches as the Trojans defeated Division I UNC-Wilmington 4-3 in men's tennis Tuesday.

The win is the first for the Trojans, ranked No. 28 in the ITA Division II national poll. The Trojans' first five matches have been against two Division I opponents and three nationally ranked Division II opponents.

Mount Olive improves to 1-4.

Sabogal and Gulherme Serra combined for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Crisosto and Felipe Olarte posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles to give Mount Olive one point for doubles. In Division I tennis, a team earns one point overall for winning the best-of-three doubles matches, whereas in Division II, a team earns a point for each doubles match won.

In singles play, Garcia won his match at No. 3 singles in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), while Crisosto and Sabogal both went three sets. Crisosto won 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Sabogal won a third-set tie-breaker at No. 6 singles to seal the dual match win, coming out on top 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.

Mount Olive opens Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference play this weekend with a pair of men's and women's matches at Walker Tennis Center on the campus of Mount Olive College.

The Trojans play host to Anderson Friday at 1 p.m., then play host to Erskine on Saturday. The men's match is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the women's match at 1 p.m.
