The third meeting in a 20-day span between Wayne Country Day and Rosewood ended in the same fashion Friday evening.

Spenser Briggs sizzled the nets for a game-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 66-36 non-conference victory in the Eagles' gym. The Chargers exited 11-2 overall heading into Monday's game at Trinity Christian of Fayetteville.

Rosewood fell to 5-6.

"We played probably one of the best defensive games we've played (all year)," Wayne Country Day coach Randy Tilley said. "We carried the intensity over the from the second half of the Waccamaw game from Wednesday night. I thought we answered the call."

Wayne Country Day led 13-7 after one quarter, but extended its advantage to 27-12 at halftime. The visitors outscored the Eagles, of the Class 1-A Carolina Conference, by a 39-24 count in the second half.

Oscar Ball dished out seven assists to go along with 13 points and five rebounds. Phillip Weeks added 12. Adam Wright turned in a strong floor game with eight assists, nine rebounds and four points.

Kyle Bunn paced Rosewood's offense with 10 points, while Danny Langston chipped in eight.

The Eagles continue play at home next Tuesday against Carolina rival North Johnston.

Conquerors prevail

Josh Brannan turned in a double-double -- 19 points, 11 rebounds -- as Faith Christian knocked off Mt. Calvary of Hookerton 71-65 in a Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association game Friday.

T.J. Sasser added 18 points, including 12 from 3-point range.

Eric Sladek contributed 17 points, while Stephen Sloan tallied 11.

Faith Christian (10-2) is the guest of Berean Christian of Fayetteville next Tuesday.

pace Eagles

RALEIGH -- Wayne Christian's Daniel Chewning scored 20 points, while teammate Antonio Simms added 18 in the Eagles' 67-45 win at Trinity Christian of Raleigh on Friday.

The win improved Wayne Christian to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference.

Grant Fitzgerald paced Trinity with 18 points.

Wayne Christian travels to Community Christian of Wilson on Tuesday.

Rebels shut down

in second half

LITTLEFIELD -- Doug Lloyd provided a team-high 12 points for North Duplin in a 80-41 loss at Carolina 1-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton on Friday night.

Charlton Armwood added eight points for the Rebels, who remained winless in four conference outings.

Ayden-Grifton (5-8) held an eight-point lead at halftime and blew the game open with a 24-point third quarter. North Duplin scored 16 points in the second half, compared to 49 for the Chargers.

Marquis Baker pumped in a game-high 22 points Ayden-Grifton, which is unbeaten in three Carolina games.

North Duplin (3-5) is the guest of Farmville Central next Tuesday.

Narron record

career high for RHS

Clare Narron recorded her best varsity performance of the season, and career, in Rosewood's 66-31 non-conference triumph against county foe Wayne Country Day.

Narron tallied 18 points on 9 of 10 shooting from the floor as the Eagles soared to 7-4 overall. Shenita Monroe and Stephanie Rhodes complemented Narron's effort with eight points apiece.

Rosewood entertains North Johnston in a key Carolina 1-A Conference game next Tuesday.

Tiara Broadie collected 15 points for the Chargers, now 6-8 overall heading into Monday's non-league tilt at Trinity Christian of Fayetteville. Teammate Christin Grubb provided nine points.

Cougars take ECC

DUDLEY -- Goldsboro withstood a 10-second Southern Wayne flurry and escaped with a 73-72, overtime victory Friday afternoon in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.

Tied 60-60 in regulation, the Saints stole a pass at midcourt and converted the layup with 19 seconds remaining. The Cougars came down, settled into their offense and lost control of the ball in the corner. As the players wrestled for the ball, the official called a foul on the Saints as time expired.

Larry Broadhurst, with fans kicking the bleachers to break his concentration, sank both free throws to force overtime.

Burnie Best poured in a game-high 26 points for the victorious Cougars, who climbed to 9-4 overall and 5-3 against ECC opposition. Teammates Anthony Artis and Treme Boone chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Josh Darden and Jaffori Ward paced the Saints with 16 points apiece. A.J. Lee added 11 as Southern Wayne (3-7) slipped to 3-4 in conference play.

CBA's Price gets

double-double

PIKEVILLE -- Brandon Price recorded a double-double, 10 points and 13 rebounds, as C.B. Aycock clipped Eastern Wayne 44-41 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest Friday.

Brandon Haynes provided a team-high 11 points for the Golden Falcons, who climbed to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Aycock travels to Washington next Tuesday.

Conquerors fall

in MACAA action

Zack Bullus emerged Faith Christian's top scorer with 15 points in a 32-25 loss against Mt. Calvary of Hookerton in Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association play Friday.

The Conquerors (2-5, 1-3 MACAA) travels to Berean Christian of Fayetteville next Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Cameron Strickland poured in 25 points as Wayne Country Day nipped Rosewood 46-44 in non-conference action Friday afternoon.

Shadoe Stewart added a double-double -- 12 points, 13 rebounds -- for the Chargers.

Wayne Country Day is 7-4.

cruises past Aycock

Lamar Lamb led three Eastern Wayne players in double figures with 16 points in the Warriors' 61-49 conquest of county rival C.B. Aycock on Friday afternoon.

Jamere Thomas added 14 points, while Daviyon Whisonant contributed 13.

Goldsboro picks

up eighth win

A.J. Holloway spearheaded a balanced offensive attack and tallied 16 points as unbeaten Goldsboro rolled past Southern Wayne 82-40 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest Friday afternoon.

T.J. Kornegay scored 11 points. Dre Robinson and A.J. Fowler each chipped in 10.

Goldsboro (8-0, 4-0 ECC) entertains Rocky Mount Senior High on Monday afternoon.
