Waters leads Rams
past Aycock ... again
SNOW HILL -- Teddie Waters pumped in a game-high 24 points as unbeaten Greene Central eased past Charles B. Aycock 57-49 in non-conference action Monday evening.
The Rams captured their third victory overall and swept the regular-season series against the Golden Falcons, who exited 1-2.
"We've improved a lot better over that first time we played them," second-year Aycock coach David West said. "Teddie Waters? I'd pay to see him go against (North Lenoir's) Justin Dunn this year. That's going to be an awesome game."
Johnathan Gage complemented Waters' effort with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Rob Phillips and Santavin Poole each had 12 for Aycock.
The Golden Falcons led for 3 1/2 quarters until the Rams forced some fouls and received trips to the free throw line. Although Greene Central didn't shoot well (5-of-13) in the final quarter, it managed to hit enough free throws keep Aycock in check.
Officials called 46 total fouls which led to a combined 50 free throw attempts.
Greene Central entertains Wilson Fike, of the Big Eight 3-A North on Wednesday. Aycock opens its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference schedule next Tuesday at county rival Goldsboro.
