Seven Wayne County players earn all-ECC tennis honors

Seven players representing four Wayne County schools have earned spots on the 2004 All-Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference girls tennis team.

Four-time ECC champion Charles B. Aycock had three selections -- sophomore Raychel Batts, junior Carlyn Claiborne and senior Leslie Sasser. Batts finished the ECC player of the year runner-up to West Carteret senior Corrine Langston.

The Golden Falcons extended their phenomenal two-decade-plus conference win streak to 282 matches and reached the final four of the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs.

Aycock's Luke Vail collected ECC coach of the year honors.

Senior Anna Weeks and Brandi Butts, both NCHSAA eastern regional qualifiers, represent Eastern Wayne.

Goldsboro High's Jessica Faison emerged the Cougars' lone choice for the 14-player team. Faison and doubles partner Quionna Bryant participated in the NCHSAA eastern regional doubles tournament, and won a first-round match.

Southern Wayne's Beth Brown, the Saints' top -seeded player, rounded out the county's selections on the all-ECC squad.

Joining Langston were teammates Emily Cochran and Maren Boelling. Also on the team were Washington's Randall Peck and Brooke Woolard; South Central's Ashley Summers and Kinston's Morgan Holloman.
