GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Heidi Busch reached the 20-kill mark for the fifth consecutive match and Anna Luft served a career-high nine aces to lead Mount Olive to a 30-22, 30-20, 30-16 victory against Limestone (S.C.) College in an NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball match Tuesday evening.

Busch, who has reached double-figures in kills in 32 consecutive matches, finished with 21 kills.

Mount Olive (19-11, 10-3 CVAC) broke away from a 14-14 tie in game one to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Game two was tied 8-8 before the Trojans took the lead for good. In game three, Mount Olive jumped out to an early lead and went on to the victory. Luft served five consecutive aces during one stretch.

Luft added 11 kills and three blocks, while Sam Mitchell recorded 10 kills. Candice Collins and Colby Mangum had five blocks apiece and Sara Christie recorded 46 assists.

Limestone (7-17, 0-12) was led by Abigail Hobart with seven kills.

Mount Olive returns to action Thursday as the Trojans play host to conference leader Lees-McRae in CVAC action. Mount Olive is currently in third place in the CVAC standings, one game behind Lees-McRae. Match time is 6 p.m. at College Hall.

Trojan men still fifth

in regional soccer poll

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College is tied with Queens at No. 5 in this week's NSCAA/Adidas Men's Soccer NCAA II Southeast Regional rankings, it was announced Tuesday. The Trojans have held the No. 5 position in each of the last five weeks and have spent seven consecutive weeks in the top 10.

Mount Olive (11-3-2 overall, 7-1-0 CVAC) is one of three Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference teams in this week's rankings, joining Queens and No. 7 Lees-McRae. UNC Pembroke remains at No. 1 in the region for the sixth consecutive week. The poll is compiled by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Mount Olive posted an 0-1-2 record last week, suffering its first loss in conference play this season. The Trojans' final two conference games are against Queens and Lees-McRae.

Mount Olive travels to Newberry, S.C., today at 4 p.m. to face Newberry in a non-conference match-up. Newberry (7-4-2) is ranked No. 7 in the Division II Appalachian Region.

Dos Santos named

CVACplayer of week

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College's Gina Dos Santos has been named Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's soccer player of the week, it was announced Tuesday.

Dos Santos becomes the second Trojan women's soccer player to win the honor this season, joining two-time winner Melanie Cobb.

Dos Santos, a freshman forward from Whitehall, Pa., tallied four goals and two assists in three matches last week as the Trojans posted a 2-1 record on their Fall Break road trip. Dos Santos accounted for both goals in the Trojans' 2-0 win over Shenandoah with a goal and an assist. She added a goal against Charleston (W. Va.) and capped the week with two goals and an assist against West Virginia Tech.

Dos Santos has scored at least one goal in five consecutive matches and seven of her last eight. She became the third player in Mount Olive women's soccer history to reach the 10-goal mark in a season and her 12 goals is the Trojans' all-time second-highest single-season goal-scoring total. Dos Santos currently ranks second in the CVAC in goals and points.

Mount Olive is having its best season in school history with an overall record of 13-3-0 and a 6-2-0 mark in conference play. The Trojans are assured of a top four finish in the conference standings and homefield advantage in the first round of next month's CVAC Tournament. Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans play host to Meredith in a non-conference contest.
