Jason Bone recorded the hat trick (three goals) as Faith Christian eliminated Liberty Christian of Durham 5-0 from the Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association soccer tournament Tuesday afternoon.

Bone scored in the 11th, 51st and 57th minutes for the Conquerors.

Stephen Marshall and Freddy Ignot each added a single goal. Ignot also provided one assist. Stephen Sloan assisted on Bone's final goal of the match.

Keeper Jonathan Ziegler had 13 saves in goal.

Faith Christian returns to action Saturday in the MACAA championship at Bethel Christian in Kinston.

Chargers endure

tough OT defeat

WILSON -- Curran Blackwell notched the game-winning goal with five seconds left in the first overtime as Greenfield nipped Wayne Country Day 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

With Sam Steed and Ryan Ford still absent from the lineup, Chargers head coach Michael Taylor put Chris Reed in goal again. The change left Kevin Logan pretty much alone in the midfield and that caused ball-distribution problems throughout the match.

"I'm proud of my guys for playing without two starters and Greenfield had every one of their players," Taylor said. "I did everything I could do last night.

"They did a great job."

Wayne Country Day (13-5-1) concludes the regular season Thursday at Classes 1-A/2-A Coastal Plains Independent foe Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.

Saints suffer

ECC road loss

MOREHEAD CITY -- Southern Wayne held defending Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference champion West Carteret to a single goal during a 30-minute span Tuesday evening.

However, the Patriots erupted offensively in the second half en route to a 7-0 win -- their seventh in league play this season.

Saints coach Michael Wiggs said Casey Best had some good saves in goal and the team gave a good effort in the loss.

Southern Wayne (2-10, 1-9 ECC) travels to county rival Eastern Wayne tonight. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
