Rebel volleyballers fall to Farmville

FARMVILLE -- Emily Deibert and Jamie Vinson combined for 17 digs on defense as North Duplin fell to defending Carolina 1-A champion Farmville Central 25-19, 25-13, 27-25 on Thursday afternoon.

"We played pretty good in game one and three," Rebels coach Heather Best said. "Farmville Central is a good team and we had a problem producing hits because their coverage was so good. We had good hits, but they got returned."

Bethany Malcolm provided four kills and two blocks. Sierra Ward added two kills, three aces, three digs and four blocks.

Vinson had a kill and two blocks. Deibert contributed one kill and two aces, while Brittany Carr served three aces.

"We've got one more match before the conference tournament, so we still need to work hard to finish this season on a positive note," said Best, whose team entertains Rosewood next Tuesday.

Rebel JVs sweep

Farmville Central

FARMVILLE -- Kayla Myers provided team highs of six aces and three kills as North Duplin swept Farmville Central 25-11, 25-20 in Carolina 1-A Conference play Thursday afternoon.

"It was a good game," North Duplin coach Heather Best said. "We really needed a win going into the last game of the season."

Heather Hudson added two kills and one ace. Vanessa Lynch contributed five aces and one kill.

Jessica Pridgen and Courtney Jackson each had a kill.

Danielle Keel and Megan Sinclair recorded three aces apiece.

The Rebels play host to North Duplin next Tuesday.

13-15 Rec

Wayne Christian 3, Seymour Johnson 2 -- Gregory Alexander collected the hat trick (three goals) on assists by Justin Braithwaite, Charlie Ipock and Taylor Gardner. Keeper Travis Thomas recorded seven saves in goal. The Eagles (5-0) play the YMCA on Tuesday.

Middle school football

Brogden 34, Mount Olive 0 -- Kenneth Casper III rushed for two touchdowns and grabbed a 60-yard touchdown pass from Tyrelle Jackson. Scott Holloman added a five-yard touchdown run. Casper emerged the defensive leader with a 60-yard touchdown fumble return and eight tackles. Holloman and Charles Broggi collected six tackles apiece. Brogden (6-1, 2-1 Division I) entertains Greenwood next Thursday in the final Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference game for both teams.
