PIKEVILLE -- Thomas Pilkington completed a game-clinching 29-yard touchdown pass to Chris Foreman early in the fourth quarter as the Golden Falcons upended the reigning Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference champions at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Pilkington, who threw three touchdown passes, opened the scoring with a 15-yard strike to Tim Alston.

West Craven answered with two second-quarter touchdowns and forged ahead 14-6. Pilkington's eight-yard TD pass to Erik Taylor knotted the game at 14-14 with 5:50 remaining before halftime.

Pilkington completed 5 of 11 passes for 71 yards and threw a pair of interceptions. Alston and Taylor grabbed two receptions apiece for a combined 42 yards.

Joseph Toler paced the Golden Falcons' rushing attack with a team- and game-high 105 yards on 20 carries.

Travis Milligan, Fred McClain and William Yelverton each recorded eight tackles on defense. Jarrett Covar provided five tackles.

C.B. Aycock travels to West Carteret next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

DUDLEY -- The Saints led a 14-point lead slip away, but rallied past the Patriots on Michael Holland's game-winning 35-yard touchdown pass to Emanuel Hinton in the final 50 seconds Thursday evening.

The touchdown throw completed a methodical 85-yard drive that began with 1:55 remaining in the contest at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex. Holland finished with six completions in 11 attempts for 95 yards.

Anthony Council collected first-half touchdowns on runs of 10 and three yards, and added a two-point conversion. He finished with 110 yards rushing and 65 yards receiving as the Saints climbed to 3-1 against ECC opposition.

Hinton, Joseph Legg and Dante Ashford combined for 95 yards on the ground.

Defensively, middle linebacker Michael Allen provided seven solo tackles, six assists and one quarterback sack. Thomas Oliver intercepted a pass and had nine stops.

Saints head coach Trae McKee said that Legg, Jeremy Hargove and Andre Williams "were in on several tackles." Hinton also notched an interception on defense.

Southern Wayne (4-2) travels to Washington next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Wagner Stadium.

Greene Central 6

SNOW HILL -- Brian Thigpen snagged the game-winning, 10-yard pass from quarterback Cameron Shelton in overtime as the Rams escaped the Panthers in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opener for both teams.

Shelton threw for 105 yards on 11 of 19 passing and rushed for a team-high 42 yards on six totes. The Rams had 190 yards total offense on the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex turf.

Trey Beamon emerged Shelton's top target, catching five throws for 61 yards.

Reggie Edwards and Tyrell Lane each recovered a fumble for Greene Central, which improved to 3-2 overall. Head coach Doug Melton added that Justin Tyson was also a leader on defense.

The Rams continue play next Thursday at North Lenoir.

Farmville Central 26

Rosewood 22

FARMVILLE -- The Jaguars weathered a strong second-half rally by the Eagles and emerged the Carolina 1-A Conference champions Thursday evening.

Rosewood seized a 7-6 lead with 16 seconds left in the opening quarter on Devon Bennett's 66-yard run. Cameron Lowe added the PAT.

Farmville Central exploded for 19 second-quarter points and held on to finish unbeaten in three conference outings.

Bennett started the Eagles' second-half scoring with a 16-yard run that capped a 94-yard drive. Anthony Gibson added a touchdown in the fourth quarter and the Jaguars took a safety for the 26-22 finale.

"The boys fought back hard to make it an interesting game," Rosewood coach Daniel Baynes said. "We had a fine JV season."

Rosewood finished 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Goldsboro 54

South Central 28

Hykeem Coley rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference game against the Falcons at Cougar Stadium.

Tim Kornegay completed six of 11 passes for 150 yards and threw four touchdown passes -- all to Brandon Davis on plays of 27, 25, 35 and 47 yards. Kornegay also returned an interception 67 yards for another touchdown.

A.J. Holloway led the Cougar defense with nine tackles. Justin Hall added six, while Kelvin James recorded five stops. Head coach Danny Merritt also cited the defensive play of Tamarcus Exum, Cedric McClary, Brandon Stokes, Dante Love, T.J. Kornegay and Lenzia Teasley.

Goldsboro (5-2) is the guest of county rival Eastern Wayne next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Little Big Horn.

Middle schools

Greenwood 8, Goldsboro 6 -- Chris Barfield scored on a 20-yard run in the third quarter for Greenwood, while Antonio Houpe added the two-point conversion. Goldsboro scored in the fourth quarter, but was stopped on the two-point conversion. Greenwood (5-2, 2-1) faces Brogden next week.

Dillard 30, Spring Creek 6 -- Antwan Pope rambled for a 65-yard touchdown run and Monterio Battle returned a fumble 30 yards for another score for the Tigers. Teammates Darren Pittman and Jakar Pettway each provided a touchdown. Hyonte Atkinson led the Dillard defense with eight tackles. The Tigers (5-2) remained unbeaten in three Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II games. They conclude the regular season at home next Thursday against Mount Olive.
