Golden Falcons blow by Greenfield
WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock dominated doubles play and eased past traditional independent schools power Greenfield 7-2 in a non-conference match Monday afternoon.
The tandems of Raychel Batts-Hadley Peacock and Nicole Taylor-Laine Purcell each pulled out tight 8-6 wins. The top-seeded doubles of Leslie Sasser-Carlyn Claiborne easily claimed an 8-1 victory.
"Leslie and Carlyn did a really good job of putting the ball away in doubles," Aycock coach Luke Vail said. "Nicole and Laine fought hard to pull out a victory."
Batts, Sasser, Claiborne and Taylor each prevailed in straight sets in singles. Batts shut out Anna Wooten Gauss at the No. 1 slot, while Claiborne dropped just one game at No. 3.
"We got outstanding singles play in the top four positions," Vail said. "Raychel had her best match of the year."
C.B. Aycock (9-1) travels to Southern Wayne on Wednesday. The match will be played at the John Neal Walker Tennis Complex on the Mount Olive College campus.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Greene Central turned in a strong performance and handed Rocky Mount Senior High a 9-0 loss Monday afternoon on the Sunset Park courts.
The Rams picked up their 11th win in 12 outings and continue play today at Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains opponent Tarboro High.
"This was one of our best performances of the season," veteran Greene Central coach Donald Clark said. "Everyone on the team contributed to the victory. Rocky Mount is undefeated in the Big East (4-A) Conference."
Meredith Rouse, Sarah Moore, Summer Chase, Holly Mace, Ashley Harrell and Christi Murphy each prevailed in singles. Harrell collected a shutout, while Mace and Murphy each dropped just one game.
Harrell and Murphy each improved to 11-1 in singles play, while Mace is 10-1. Chase earned her 10th win in 11 tries. Rouse and Moore, who have each seen stiffer competition, have nine victories apiece.
"Meredith was absolutely crushing her ground strokes off both sides, and she played with the kind of intensity I've been asking her to play with," Clark said. "Sarah hit a lot of winners off her backhand today, but I was most pleased with the soft touch she was putting on her drop shots."
