Soccer -- MOC men seize CVAC opener

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Charles Williams broke a scoreless tie and ignited a first-half scoring outburst as regionally eighth-ranked Mount Olive defeated host Anderson (S.C.) College 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Trojans scored three goals in a span of nine minutes midway through the first half to break the game open.
Mount Olive (4-1-0, 1-0-0 CVAC) opened the scoring in the 19th minutes as Williams put in a header off a corner kick by Chris Jasso. Ryan Adamski scored in the 26th minute when his shot deflected off an Anderson player.
Cory Worrell added a goal two minutes later to extend his scoring streak to five matches and give the Trojans a 3-0 lead.
Anderson (1-3-0, 0-1-0) got on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute as Conor Dowler put back a missed shot to close the gap to 3-1 at halftime.
Mount Olive closed out the scoring 50 seconds into the second half on a breakaway goal by Reid Clewis.
Trojan goalkeeper Chris Roush made five saves, including two diving saves, to prevent any further scoring. Anderson goalkeeper Alex Jenkins finished with six saves.
Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans play host to Barton in CVAC action. The women's game kicks off at 2 p.m. at Trojan Field, with the men's match following immediately.
