Prep tennis -- Gators upset by Vikings

TARBORO -- Spring Creek, the defending Class 1-A Carolina Conference and eastern regional champion, suffered a 5-4 loss at Tarboro High on Wednesday.
After the two teams won three singles matches each -- including a 6-0, 6-0 win at number two by the Gators' Sarah Warren -- the Vikings battled back to take two-of-three in doubles to seal the win.
Warren and teammate Stacy Smith won at number one doubles 8-0.
Smith, Warren and Sarah Bragg took singles victories for Spring Creek, who dropped to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the Classes 2-A/1-A Eastern Plains/Carolina Conference. The Gators host SouthWest Edgecombe today.
"Everybody needs a wake-up call," Spring Creek coach Robert Jones said. "I think we will be fine. These girls have to respond to being the hunted now. We were kind of under the radar for a while."
