Prep tennis -- Rosewood cruises past SW

MOUNT OLIVE -- Rosewood dropped just eight singles games for the match as the Eagles defeated county, non-conference rival Southern Wayne 8-1 on Monday at the John Neal Walker tennis courts at Mount Olive College.
Kayce Brantham, Leah Smith, Sydney Worrell, Kourtney Humphrey, Missy Bailey and Erica Nichols helped the Eagles (2-1) sweep all six singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles, Southern Wayne (0-3) picked up its only win as Christy Westbrook and Kasey Powell claimed an 8-4 victory at number three.
The combinations of Brantham-Worrell and Smith-Humphrey won at number one and two doubles for Rosewood.
The Saints travel to West Carteret on Wednesday in Eastern Carolina Conference action. Rosewood hosts North Lenoir today.
