SEVEN SPRINGS -- Lelo Burt had a great opening game for Spring Creek Friday night as the Gators hosted Heide Trask.
But the Titans brought their ground game, and that proved to be the difference. Trask rushed for 284 yards and four touchdowns in a 30-14 win over the Gators.
Burt was the highlight of Spring Creek's night, as the wide receiver caught nine passes for 159 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Mycheal King threw for 258 yards of 15-for-25 passing, but the Gator ground game had just 40 yards and lost four fumbles.
Trask never threw a pass all night as Keyron Bromelle rushed for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 17 carries.
Despite the offensive struggles, Spring Creek was never out of the game until a pair of touchdowns early in the fourth quarter effectively sealed the win for Trask.
Whitfield credited both Burt and King for their efforts, but said the ineffective run game was the key to the defeat.
"Turnovers and not being able to run, as well as not having a defensive attack for the run tonight," Whitfield said. "The number one thing for next game is not to give up big plays, and come out with an improved running attack."
Burt caught three pass in the last minute of the first half, capped off with an 11-yard touchdown catch with 10 seconds left to close the half down just 12-6.
Bromelle anchored Trask's running attack in the second half, finishing the night with two second-half touchdowns on runs of 23 and 47 yards.
Spring Creek looked to make one last run in the fourth quarter, but a dropped a pass in the end zone stopped the drive.
Deandre Faison opened the scoring by recovering a Gator fumble in the opening quarter and going 43 yards for the score.
Spring Creek, now 0-4 in season-opening contests, will seek its first win of the season Friday at Hobbton.
