PIKEVILLE -- Bennett Jeffreys' opening-inning grand slam set the tone for the evening as Aycock's Junior American Legion team dusted off Snow Hill 13-6 Tuesday night at the Charles B. Aycock High School diamond.

Jeffreys came to bat after Will Spence opened the inning on an infield single, Christopher King was hit by a pitch and Thomas Pilkington drew a walk from Snow Hill starter Hunter Chase. Jeffreys' home run gave Aycock a quick 4-0 lead and gave a big lift to Aycock starter Brandon Edgerton, who got the win in four innings of work. Christopher King cam on in relief and Joseph Toler worked the seventh inning.

Jeffreys was 2-for-4 and was one of eight different players to collect a hit for Aycock (14-4, 8-4). Cameron Boswell, Spence, Pilkington and Jackson Massey all had two hits for Aycock.

Chase was 2-for-3 with a double to pace Snow Hill (7-4 in league play). Dreyon Willis was hit by a pitch, drew a walk and hit a 2-run home run, while Murray and Spencer Albritton both had a pair of hits.

Aycock has concluded its league schedule and has secured the second seed for the upcoming conference tournament. They will host Snow Hill in the first round, starting Saturday at 7 p.m.

Snow Hill will complete league play tonight against Tri-County.
