Track and field -- Princeton's girls win conference title

Summer Graham prevailed in two individual events and anchored two winning relay teams as Princeton claimed the 2004 Class 1-A Carolina Conference Track and Field girls championship Tuesday afternoon at Rosewood.

The Bulldogs amassed 126 points in the seven-team meet. Farmville Central ended up second with 107. North Johnston, helped by Helen Moore's single individual title, claimed third with 94 points. Rosewood grabbed fourth with 82, followed by North Duplin (63), Spring Creek (42) and Ayden-Grifton (27).

Graham, a senior, ran the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 19 seconds. She added a winning time of 11:46 in the 3,200. The Bulldogs captured the 1,600 and 3,200 relays with Graham running the final leg in each event.

Moore emerged the Carolina champ with a throw of 94 feet in the discus. Teammates Shayla Morris (shot put) and Ashley Sharpe (pole vault) each picked up an individual win.

Rosewood received wins from Kerry Garner (400) and Sa'Coya Cox (100).

North Duplin's Amy Arthur was the runner-up to Graham in the 1,600 and 3,200.

The Carolina 1-A boys championship is today at Rosewood.
