SEVEN SPRINGS -- Joseph Wade's RBI double and Matthew Tyndall's two-RBI single sparked Greene Central to a 6-2, non-conference victory Tuesday afternoon at Spring Creek.

The Rams (1-3) ended their four-game skid dating back to last season's first-round playoff loss against Randleman.

Greene Central led 1-0 before breaking things open in the fifth. Hunter Chase doubled and Travis Rouse drew a walk. Wade doubled home Chase to make it 2-0.

Tyndall plated Rouse and Wade with a single.

The Rams, who entertain Charles B. Aycock on Friday, added two more runs in the sixth.

Chase finished the day 2-for-4 with two doubles. Rouse added two hits, including a double. Wade also batted 2-for-4.

Randy Amos and Blake Thompson each had two hits for the Gators.

Spring Creek (2-3) goes to North Lenoir on Friday.

picks up ECC win

WINTERVILLE -- South Central scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to squeeze out a 5-4, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference baseball win against Eastern Wayne Tuesday.

The Falcons (2-1, 1-1 ECC) took the lead in the first when Brandon Brown hit a solo homer. That was pushed out to 4-0 after three before the Warriors rallied for four to tie it up in the fifth.

"I'm pretty proud of how we came back from being down 4-0," Eastern Wayne coach Jabo Fulghum said.

It remained 4-4 until the bottom of the seventh. With one out, John Allen Conway singled and moved up on a sacrifice. Ed Greene's hit plated him with the game-winner.

Garrett Sutton led the Warriors (0-3, 0-1 ECC) with two hits. Airlon Vinson, who got the loss in relief, Jesse Lancaster and Matt Hemenway added an RBI each for Eastern Wayne.

Lancaster hurled six strong innings, striking out 10 and walking just one.

"In the innings that they scored runs, we gave them some opportunities with a couple of errors. Jesse pitched a heck of a game He pitched well enough to win, but we've got to play behind them," Fulghum said.

Jon Allen Conway batted 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Falcons. Brandon Brown belted a home run in two plate appearances. Ed Greene and Ryan Venter combined for four hits and two RBI.

South Central visits Southern Wayne on Friday.

Eastern Wayne entertains Washington at 7 p.m. Friday.

claim ECC victory

Josh Pate emerged the lone mutiple hitter and two pitchers combined for a no-hitter as C.B. Aycock opened its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference slate with a 10-0 victory against county rival Goldsboro.

Pate doubled in a 2-for-3 effort and drove in two runs. Matthew Waddell contributed a double and two RBI.

Adam Williams claimed the pitching win, striking out eight and allowing no hits in a three-inning stint. Alex Raper threw two innings of no-hit, four-strikeout relief.

Officials halted the contest after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

"Goldsboro has improved a lot," Aycock coach Charles Davis said. "Danny (Merritt) is doing a great job with those kids over there."

C.B. Aycock (2-0, 1-0 ECC) travels to Greene Central on Friday.

Goldsboro (0-1 ECC) dropped to 0-3 on the season.

Rebels suffer

tough road defeat

HARRELLS -- Brad Lloyd collected North Duplin's lone hit in an 11-1, non-conference loss Tuesday afternoon at Harrells Christian Academy.

Josh Marquez's sacrifice bunt led to the Rebels' lone fifth-inning run.

Officials halted the contest in the bottom of the fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule.

"We just aren't playing very well right now," first-year Rebels coach Rob Futch said. "We're lacking focus and mental toughness. We allowed six runs with two outs and let our emotions get to us on the mound a bit.

"It's early in the season. We are still getting our timing and feel back."

Lloyd also endured the pitching loss, surrendering five runs (all earned) on two hits and six walks. Ryan Tillman, Daniel Howell and Rick Bennett each saw some time on the mound.

"(We) got to see what Ryan could do on the mound," Futch said. "If we can get him back up to par after a year off, he's going to be a big plus in the conference. Also, we got a chance to look at a few freshmen on the hill that maybe can do some situational stuff for us later on."

North Duplin (1-2) travels to Hobbton today.

SNOW HILL -- Corey Skinner batted 2-for-3 and drove in a run as Greene Central dropped a 7-2 decision against J.H. Rose's ninth-grade team Tuesday afternoon.

Lance Murray ripped a solo home run in four plate appearances for the Rams. Teammate Dreyan Willis tripled in four at-bats.

Skinner endured the pitching loss, striking out one and walking two in a five-inning stint.

Greene Central (1-2) is the guest of C.B. Aycock this afternoon.

Kinston in ECC

DUDLEY -- JoJo Davis just missed hitting for "the cycle" as Southern Wayne dumped Kinston 23-0 in both teams' Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener Tuesday afternoon.

Davis singled, doubled, tripled and collected seven RBI in four at-bats on the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex diamond.

Wade Sasser added two hits and a double. Willie Koernig tripled in a 2-for-2 effort. Jeremy Hargrove batted 2-for-3 with a double, and Chris Massey added a pair of singles in two plate appearances.

Justin Williams (2-0) collected the pitching win, striking out eight Vikings in a four-inning stint. Davis threw one inning of two-strikeout relief. Williams now has 20 strikeouts in two mound appearances this season.

The Saints (2-1, 1-0 ECC) travel to South Central on Friday.

Middle schools

Norwayne 19, Brogden 0 -- Jay Rose and Zach Wright had three hits each for the Cobras, while Stephen Strouse and Will Edgerton had two hits each. Rose and Jessie Randolph combined for the shutout, one-hit effort for Norwayne (5-0, 2-0 Division I), who travels to Mount Olive on March 15. Brogden (3-1, 0-1) takes on Goldsboro on Thursday.

Brogden 7, Grantham 4 -- Adam Mitchell and Arnell Raynor had two hits each for the Rams, while J.D. Medlin picked up the win in seven innings of work. Jeremy Davis and Robert Herring each doubled for Grantham (0-3), who hosts Greenwood on Thursday.
