NORLINA -- Wayne Christian's Michelle Krug poured in 10 points as the Eagles claimed the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference Championship with a 40-29 win over Trinity Christian of Raleigh at Norlina on Saturday.

The Eagles, who also claimed the regular season title, clinched an automatic bid into the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament. Wayne Chrsitian travels to face Gaston Day School today at 6 p.m.

On Friday, the Eagles topped Cary Christian 67-40 as Alicia Chong dropped in 17 points.

Ashley Longwell was named the conference's Player of the Year and was the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Krug, along with Jennica Botonis were named first team all-tournament, while Alicia Chong and Leah Horton made the second team.

Eagles fall

in tourney finals

NORLINA -- Wayne Christian's Antonio Simms dropped in 18 points as the Eagles fell 60-36 to Community Christian of Wilson in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament at Norlina on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Wayne Christian (13-10) will continue play in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament today at Victory Academy in Charlotte.

Simms was named the conference's co-MVP with Norlina's Arnie Watkins and was also named to the first team all-tournament along with Eagle teammate Jordan Yelverton.

Eddie Hall was selected to the first team all-conference, while Andrew Bircher was placed on the second team.

On Friday, Wayne Christian defeated Norlina 66-58 paced by a 22-point effort by Simms and Yelverton's 17 points.

Eddie Hall added 11 points and 13 assists in Friday's win.

HENDERSON -- Wayne Country Day's Shadoe Stewart poured in 27 points in the Chargers 52-49 loss to Greenfield School in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference tournament finals on Friday.

Stewart, along with Brian Brock, who added 11 points, and Chad Roberson were named to the CPIC all-tournament team.

Joe White and Mack McKinney led the Knights with 11 points each.

The loss proved to be Wayne Country Day's only loss against a conference team.

Faith balanced

in victory

Faith Christian's T.J. Sasser and Aaron Sledick scored 12 points each to guide the Conquerors to a 42-31 win over Gateway of Virginia Beach at home on Friday.

Jon Spencer added 10 points in the win for Faith Christian, who improved to 12-6 overall.

Linton Banks led Gateway with 12 points.

EC golf

set to begin play

The East Carolina Golf Association will resume play March 11 at Birchwood Country Club in Nashville with a 10 a.m. tee-time. Those planning to attend should sign up by March 5.
