WASHINGTON -- For the second straight game, the Charles B. Aycock boys basketball team played solid team basketball, but fell short of picking up a win.

Washington's Calvin Daniels' layup with seven seconds left in the game pushed the Pam Pack (10-13, 6-10 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) to a 58-57 win over the Golden Falcons on Wednesday.

Aycock was led by a pair of senior forwards. Alonzo Ferrell dropped in a career-high 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while teammate Jamorris Dickerson added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Golden Falcons (4-18, 4-12 ECC) will travel to face Goldsboro in the conference tournament play-in game on Friday at 7 p.m. The winner will face top-seeded Kinston next Tuesday at the Vikings' gymnasium. Aycock defeated Goldsboro in both regular season meetings.

"It's hard to beat a team three times in a year, but when you get into an elimination situation, you've really got to reach down," Aycock coach David West said. "We've played two good games in a row, we just haven't caught any breaks.

"Hopefully, tomorrow we will catch those breaks."

Aycock's girls rebounded from Tuesday's loss against Eastern Wayne to lock-up the conference's third seed heading into the tournament with a 55-41 victory.

The Lady Falcons, who got a 19-point output from senior Cassandra Worrell on Wednesday, open up conference tournament play at home on Tuesday against either West Craven or West Carteret.

Sophomore point guard Quaneisha Milner added 10 points for Aycock (16-6, 11-5 ECC), who were playing without Joyce Warrick, who suffered a minor ankle injury in Tuesday's contest. Warrick, the team's leading rebounder, should be back for the conference tournament.

Washington's girls were 24-34 from the free-throw line on the game.

"We challenged them before the game. This was our first complete game as far as intensity on defense," Aycock coach Gary Hales said. "We played man-to-man. Free throws were keeping them in the game.

"Those are fouls that I can handle, because we were playing hard."

With the Pam Pack boys down by one, Daniels took the ball and cut into the lane and lost the ball going up for the shot. The ball came right back down into his hands, and Daniels put the ball in to give Washington back the lead.

Aycock had seven seconds to answer. After taking the ball up the court, an errant Falcons' pass was tipped out of bounds by a Washington defender with one second left on the clock. The ensuing inbound pass was stolen by Washington to seal the game.

Wayne Country Day's Spenser Briggs dropped in 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Chargers rolled to a 61-34 win at home over Rocky Mount Academy.

The win improves Wayne Country Day (11-5 overall) to 3-3 in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference play heading into tonight's clash at Rocky Mount Academy (weather pending). The Chargers conclude the regular season at home on Friday against Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.

Kris Exum added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Chargers, while Shivar Person had 11 points and five rebounds,

Rocky Mount Academy's Mike Schmidt scored 12 points.

Aycock finishes with big win

WASHINGTON -- Charles B. Aycock's Lamada Williams poured in 20 points as the Golden Falcons concluded the regular season with a 67-46 at Washington on Wednesday.

Aycock (12-10 overall) finished the season with a 9-7 record against Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference competition.

Brandon Williams addded 11 points, while Chris Foreman provided 10.

WCDS rolling through CPIC

Wayne Country Day's Brian Brock scored 27 points to lead the Chargers to a 59-29 over Rocky Mount Academy at home on Wednesday.

Wayne Country Day (11-4 overall) remained unbeaten against Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference teams with a 6-0 worksheet.

Lamar Carpenter and Travis Davis scored 11 points each in the win for the Chargers, who take on Faith Christian of Rocky Mount at home on Friday.

Bell paces Gators in win

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek defeated Community Christian 103-35 on Tuesday behind a 25-point effort from Dalress Bell.

Cliff Wilson added 12 points, while Josh Wright and Danial Correll scored 11 each. David Harris contributed 10 points as all 11 Gators scored.

The Gators (15-6) play their final game of the season at North Johnston on Friday.

Aycock falls in season finale

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Rusti Talton and Janay Dickerson had eight points in a 35-28 loss at Washington on Wednesday.

The Lady Golden Falcons concluded the season at 5-10 overall and 4-6 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference.
