Longwell paces Wayne Christian girls

GREENVILLE -- Wayne Christian's Ashley Longwell dropped in 15 points as the Eagles finished 11-1 after a 44-36, Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference win against Trinity Christian.

The Eagles (14-10) seized the No. 1 seed for next week's CCC tournament.

Jennica Botonis added 10 points.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek's Shondalyn Rogers poured in 27 points to boost the Gators to a 72-20 win over Community Christian at home in non-conference action.

Senior forward Yolanda Lawson chipped in six points, 14 rebounds and six steals in the win.

Tomeka Pride added 10 points, while Austi Joyner posted nine points for the Gators (10-13 overall). Spring Creek had 19 steals as a team in the win.

Spring Creek travels to take on North Johnston on Friday in its Class 1-A Carolina Conference regular season finale.

Second period

slows Rams

TARBORO -- Greene Central's Teketia May scored 24 points, but the Rams were slowed in the second period in a 56-52 loss at Eastern Plains 2-A foe Tarboro on Tuesday.

The Vikings outscored Greene Central 16-5 in the second.

Deandra Tyson added 12 points in the loss for the Rams (7-16), who fell to 2-7 in the EPC. The Rams, currently in fifth place, finish the regular season Friday at fourth-place South Lenoir.

KENLY -- North Johnston's Helen Moore scored 26 points to lead the Panthers in an easy, 80-25 win over Carolina 1-A rival Ayden-Grifton at home on Tuesday.

North Johnston (19-4, 8-3 CC) concludes regular-season play at home Friday against Spring Creek.

Lakisha McFadden added 12 points for the Panthers.

FARMVILLE -- Princeton's Michelle Gray scored a team-high 13 points as Farmville Central dropped the Bulldogs 77-30 on the Jaguars' home floor.

Megan Zullo led all scorers with 24 points for Farmville (21-1), who face their final regular-season test at Carolina 1-A opponent Rosewood on Thursday.

The Lady Jags' enter the showdown with a 10-0 league worksheet.

Rosewood is 8-2 in conference play and would secure second place with the win.

Saints conclude

impressive run

Southern Wayne's Christina Lopez dropped in 13 points as the Saints concluded regular season play with a 59-45 win over rival Goldsboro at the Cougar Den on Tuesday.

The Saints finished at 18-2 overall and 11-1 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.

Felicia Martin added nine points for Southern Wayne, while Mercedes Price pulled down 11 rebounds.

Golden Falcons

knock off Warriors

Rusti Talton emerged Charles B. Aycock's top scorer with eight points in a 32-19 victory against Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Eastern Wayne on Tuesday afternoon at New Hope.

Stephanie MacConnell led the Warriors with eight points.

Aycock (5-9, 4-5 ECC) is scheduled to entertain Washington on Thursday. However, depending on the inclement weather that is expected to blanket eastern North Carolina tomorrow, the game could be moved to today.

Eastern Wayne (0-9 ECC) remained winless in 14 outings.

Junior high

St. Mary's 28, Wayne Christian 22 -- Noelle Kelly paced St. Mary's with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Wayne Christian's Brittany Sullivan scored 16 points for the Eagles. St. Mary's improved to 6-4.
