FAYE EMERSON MEWBORN

Jan. 17, 1947-Aug. 5, 2018

Faye Emerson Mewborn, 71, Jason community, LaGrange, passed away to her Heavenly reward Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018.

Faye was born Jan. 17, 1947, in Lenoir County to the late Billy Emerson and Lois Howard Emerson.

Faye’s life revolved around looking after her boys. As matriarch of her family, she fiercely defended them and loved them unconditionally. A woman of great inner strength and resolve, Faye truly relished her role as wife, mother, and grandmother.

Faye retired following 45 years of dedicated service to The Weekly Gazette. She took great pride in her work and was a bright ray of sunshine anytime you entered the office.

A lady of great faith, Faye was a longtime member of Wheat Swamp Christian Church. She had a heart of gold and a great desire to help her fellow man. She truly loved her Wheat Swamp family.

Faye loved trips to Swansboro and the North Carolina coast. Everything was better for Faye and life’s worries disappeared during her travels to the coast. When at home, she loved watching cooking shows. Faye’s family has many fond memories of great times spent around the kitchen table enjoying her fried chicken and sweet tea. Hers was simply the best to them.

A true blue Carolina Tarheel fan, Faye and her husband, Gary spent many happy moments together cheering on their beloved Tarheels. She loved tending to her plants and flowers.

A service to celebrate and honor Faye’s life will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. at Wheat Swamp Christian Church.

Faye is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gary H. Mewborn; son, Gary Michael Mewborn and wife, Holly; four grandchildren, Brian Hawkins, Gary Michael Mewborn Jr., Ashley Richter and Emerson Mewborn; and a sister, Barbara Emerson McAfee.

A brother, Ronald Preston Emerson; and a granddaughter, Destinee Clayton, preceded Faye in death.
