June 7, 1931-March 7, 2018
June Doris Book, 86, Dudley, N.C., passed away peacefully March 7, 2018, at home with her caregivers, Valerie and Stanley Gracyk, at her side.
She was born in Pittsfield, Mass., June 7, 1931, to the late Alfred and Hilda Attenborough of Pittsfield, Mass.
June was a hard worker, who worked for the Berkshire Eagle newspaper, The Wave Beach Store, WalMart and laundromats.
During her lifetime, she lived in Hinsdale, Dalton, Cheshire and Pittsfield, Mass., and Little River, S.C., finally coming to Dudley, N.C.
June was an avid member at the Peggy Seegars Senior Center respite group, enjoyed spending time with her cats and dog, enjoyed spending time at Sunset Beach watching the sunsets and was a prolific bird watcher.
Her favorite bird was the Red Cardinal, and her favorite flower was the gardenia.
Throughout her life, she devoted much of her time raising her six daughters.
She had many friends during her life, including her lifelong special friends, Doris Maynard and the late Janet Cook.
Her favorite saying, which kept her going, was "just kidding."
June was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, William Gerald Book, and her daughter, Allison Kebelis.
June is survived by her daughters, Valerie Gracyk and husband, Stanley, of Dudley, N.C., Stacey Cook and husband, Scott, of Massachusetts, Faye La Vallee and husband, Eddie, of Massachusetts, Sharon Lucas and husband, Paul, of Massachusetts and Hilda Hall of Massachusetts, along with 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A special thanks goes out to all the members at the respite center, 3HC and medical services, who were there for her.
Burial will be at a later date in Pittsfield Cemetery, Pittsfield, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed in June's memory to the local animal shelter, the Peggy Seegars Senior Center or 3HC.
