McCullouch, Goldsboro, N.C., died Jan. 13, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.

He was the fourth child born into the loving family of Bill and Bess McCullouch.

Floyd spent his childhood in the Draper section of Eden, N.C.

He reaped the benefits of Draper Elementary School and John Motley Morehead High School.

He was a regular attendee at all activities at the Draper YMCA.

He was among the first graduating class of Rockingham Community College. He received a bachelor's degree from Atlantic Christian College and a master's degree from East Carolina University.

He completed post-graduate studies at the University of Virginia, University of Florida, University of Tennessee and New Jersey Neuro-Psychiatric Institute.

He was a counselor, behaviorist and administrator with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for the state of North Carolina for 25 years. He also owned Wayne Counseling and Consulting and McCullouch Auction and Sales.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sally Slayback; brothers-in law, Alan Slayback and Bernice Dalton; brother, Billy McCullouch; and niece, Deborah.

He missed the camaraderie of his deceased friends, Harold Mooring, Bill Condron and Teddy Corum.

He is survived by his sister, Bobine Dalton, and nephews and nieces, Jay, Ahna and Steve Slayback, Jay and Sally Huey Stilborne, Jodie, Keith and Tonya Dalton, Charles and Ellen Marlowe and Billy and Cheryl McCullouch.

Involved in the helping profession, he received great pleasure in assisting others.

Upon retirement, he volunteered for 20 years on area and state mental health boards, NAMI, North Carolina Council for Community Programs, Wayne Mental Health and Eastpointe.

He was a recipient of the Mayor's Trophy for contributions to the advancement of disabled citizens and for his work with businesses in Wayne County creating greater access for specially challenged citizens.

He received the North Carolina Council Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse.

He received the Bob Futrelle Good Government Award, Order of the Longleaf Pine and the Governor's Award for volunteer organizations.

He co-founded Parents and Professionals for Handicapped Citizens, a coalition advocating for the human and legal rights of citizens with special needs.

He was given peace through his membership at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.

He loved listening to gospel music, fishing, golfing, movies, competitive games and reading.

A very social being, he enjoyed good conversation, great jokes and embellished yarns, especially through his affiliation with several fraternal clubs and organizations.

He delighted in opportunities to frequent the "hard head table" at Wilber's Barbecue. He began his day with the newspapers and a cup of coffee.

His appreciation of history and current events made him an astute follower of all political and governmental activities. His passion for every election cycle never waned.

His spirited mind, passion for learning, appreciation of and affection for all people, love of thriving competition, need of adventure and determination to live life to its fullest were monumental assets.

Cherishing his life and the memories he made are his daughter, Sarah Bess, whom he adored and of whom he was extremely proud, and his devoted wife of 47 years, Carolyn.

Dr. Fred Clark will lead a service of remembrance at First Christian Church, 1609 Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., Jan. 18, 2018, at 2 p.m.

Floyd will return to his beloved Eden, N.C., Dan View Cemetery, for interment with his ancestors Jan. 19, 2018, at 2 p.m.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are requested to be shared with Wayne Opportunity Center, which he supported for many years, or National Parkinson's Foundation.

The family gives profound gratitude to the staffs of Wayne Memorial Hospital's sixth floor and Goldsboro Medical Specialists, Dr. Phillip Brantley, Dr. Daniel Poole, Dr. Sam McLamb, 3HC, Belfast Fire Department and Wayne NET.

The family appreciates the support of friends of Fallingbrook and the congregants, elders and parish leaders of First Christian Church, and is grateful for the service of special care partner, Mrs. Holland Whitfield.
