MELBA AYCOCK KIRBY

Oct. 2, 1936-Jan. 5, 2018

Melba Aycock Kirby, 81, Kenly completed her journey home on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, to the welcoming words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

Melba was born in Wayne County on Oct. 2, 1936, to the late A. Worth and Margaret W. Aycock. She enjoyed the opportunities given to her by helping to impact the lives of so many students while serving as a teacher for 30 years with Wayne County Public Schools. Melba loved Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church and was a dedicated and faithful servant her entire life. She served as the treasurer of the W.A. Taylor Sunday School class and had a large extended circle of family and friends with the Senior Saints at the church and they were all very special to her. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, and for over 44 years she traveled with her husband in ministry as he sang in gospel sings across eastern North Carolina. She will be missed but will be greatly remembered.

A service to celebrate Melba's life will be held on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Pleasant Grove F.W.B. Church with her son, the Rev. Stanley Kirby and her pastor, the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church. Interment will be on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Melba is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Kirby; son, Stanley Kirby and wife, Nancy; and son, Dale Kirby and wife, Jenise; and grandchildren, Megan Kirby, Andrew Kirby and Payton Kirby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, A.W. Aycock Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, Pleasant Grove F.W.B. Church, WRPG Radio Station, 1100 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863 or to a charity of one's choice.
