LOUISE MCEWEN UZZELL

Oct. 18, 1937-Sept. 23, 2017

After battling an extended illness, Louise McEwen Uzzell, of Goldsboro, was welcomed into her Heavenly Father’s arms on Sept. 23, 2017.

Louise was born on Oct. 18, 1937, in McComb, Miss. She spent much of her life as a musician and recorded and released a record. She performed at the Grand Ole Opry and was a headliner at the South Louisiana Hayride where she sang and played guitar with Porter Wagner. She also performed with Bill Carlisle, Jim Ed Brown and the Carter Family. Although given the opportunity, she chose spending time raising her three young sons over pursuing a professional career as a musician. She also spent time modeling in her younger years and later retired from BB&T of Goldsboro and Verizon Wireless.

She will be most remembered for her compassionate love for her family and friends, positive attitude and strong Christian faith through life’s trials, her glowing smile, and passion for singing and playing guitar.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Uzzell will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Weaver and the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, LaGrange, N.C.

She will be dearly missed by her survivors including her husband, Gerald Uzzell; and sons, Randy (MaryAnn) Hill of Graniteville, S.C., Curtis (Max) Hill of McComb, Miss., Larry (Denise) Hill of Nashville, N.C. and Bob (Barbara) Uzzell of Leland, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jay Hill of Aiken, S.C., Valoree (Josh) Murray of Bailey, N.C., Kristen (James) Patrick of Leland, N.C., Laura (Richard) Fasnacht of Leland, N.C.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Tucker Hill, Elouise and Leland Murray, Caison, Abigail, Elly, and Ada Belle Patrick, and Hunter, Bryson, and Joshua Fasnacht. She is also survived by niece, Deborah (Joey) Moak; and extended family of McComb, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Bertha Chance McEwen; and brother, Billy McEwen.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Cures For The Colors, C/O Southeastern Medical Oncology Center, 203 Cox Blvd. Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
