ROBIE B. KILLETTE

June 30, 1932-Sept. 14, 2017

Robie B. Killette, 85, LaGrange, peacefully received his heavenly call Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017.

Robie was born June 30, 1932, in Wayne County to the late Gilbert Killette and Hepsie Parks Killette.

Robie loved the land and the life of the farmer. A perfectionist, Robie believed in giving his best effort and the values taught through hard work and a good shovel. He often said, "Don't dread the work, just get out there and do it."

Robie believed in never starting anything Friday if you couldn't get it finished by day's end.

Music was an important part of Robie's life. As a young man, Robie rode to Goldsboro with his brother, Wayne, and paid $12 for his first fiddle. Playing his new instrument in the car on the return trip home, Robie quickly picked up the nuances of fiddle playing.

A lifetime of making beautiful country and bluegrass music began. Robie especially enjoyed playing and singing with his brothers.

Ever thankful and appreciative of the blessings he had received, Robie was always willing to help others in need, and would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it.

As Robie got older, his walk with the Lord became a source of strength. He worshiped his Lord at LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church.

A good hunting dog, a big covey of quail and a big auction always brought a smile to Robie.

Robie took great pride in being the family patriarch. Nothing was more enjoyable than a family gathering at "The Barn." He was a beacon of strength and inspiration to his family, and his legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate and honor Robie's life will be held Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at 4 p.m. from LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie V. Hobgood officiating. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.

Robie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sybil Carlyle Killette; son, Robie B. Killette Jr. and wife, Eloise; daughter, Bonnie Kornegay and husband, Gary; nine grandchildren, Brandon Wade and fianceé, Kristy Blake, Matthew Wade and wife, Kim, Amber Hatcher, Hoyt Killette, Steve Killette and wife, Leah, Tara Dail Minder and husband, Brian, Ethan Dail, Shawn Tilghman and husband, Ben, and Samuel Kornegay and wife, Amy; and 13 great-grandchildren, McKinnon Wade, Aiden Wade, Alyssa Hatcher, Christian Heath, Bella Heath, Faith Minder, Marisa Austin, Ryan Minder, Evan Minder, Kaitlyn Minder, Bailey Tilghman, Cooper Tilghman and Andrew Kornegay.

One of eight children, Robie was preceded in death by all his siblings, Mary Rachel Smith, Elizabeth Phipps, Reece Killette, Wayne Killette, Ray Killette, James Earlon Killette and Tom Killette.

Family and friends will be received Sunday following the service.
