FAYE WIGGINS WHITFIELD

Sept. 26, 1938-Aug. 31, 2017

Faye Whitfield was born in Duplin County to the late Johnnie Edward and Eva Price Wiggins, one of 10 children.

A 1956 graduate of the first graduating class of North Duplin High School, she was employed for 33 1/2 years with Burlington Industries in Mount Olive.

A faithful loving servant of Jesus Christ at Emmaus Baptist Church for more than 40 years, Faye used her talent singing in the church choir and chairing many committees, including the Emmaus Wayne County Agricultural Fair booth and the church kitchen committee.

She started the Emmaus Memorial Christmas Tree, served on the pastor search committee, participated in the American Heart Association Heart Walk at Mount Olive Pickle Co. and initiated the Johnny Sasser Sunday school class Thanksgiving fruit basket ministry for the sick and homebound.

She organized the Kitty Askins ministry at Emmaus with scheduled visits that served food to families and staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. A member of the Johnny Sasser Sunday school class, she served as class president, and was an active participant in all functions of the class.

She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend, always seeking ways to improve the lives of those she loved.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating.

The family will receive friends following the church service.

Committal services will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Faye is survived by her son, Kyle Whitfield; daughter, Gayla Whitfield; her dearly loved grandchildren, John "Jack" William Lawrence and Eva Claire Lawrence; a sister, Gail Rogers; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Margaret W. Sutton, Wade Wiggins, Anna Dean W. Bohart, Charity W. Cannavo, Eva Louise W. Feurer, Johnnie Wiggins, Nelson Wiggins and Gretchel W. Moore.

The family suggests that memorial gifts be directed to Emmaus Baptist Church, 714 Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, N.C., 28333.
