HELEN MASSEY BUTTS
Oct. 22, 1931-July 17, 2017
Helen Massey Butts, 85, of Winston, Ga., went to be with her Lord on July 17, 2017. She was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Boone Hill, N.C. She graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, N.C. Helen and Elias Borden (E.B.) Butts were married on April 10, 1949, in Dillon, S.C.
Mrs. Butts left her hometown of Goldsboro, N.C., and moved to Florida in 1959, where she lived for 10 years. She was head cashier with Food Fair in Orlando. After transferring to Denver, Colo., with her husband, she worked for Fashion Bar for 20 years, where she retired. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and watching the Atlanta Braves.
Helen was a wonderful Christian, a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and was loved by all who knew her. She took great pride in her home, loved being a homemaker and was a wonderful cook to all who knew her. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 15 years.
She loved the Lord, whom she served for many years. Mrs. Butts was very active in her church before retirement. Mrs. Butts was a member of West Metro Church of God for 15 years. Her passion, however, was being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Lela Mae and Charles Patrick Massey.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, E.B.; four sons, Keith (Beverly), Dennis (Deanna), Tim (Pam) and Mike (Michele); nine grandchildren, Kevin, Lisa, Kelly, Emily, Bonnie, Brian, Corey, Erin and Ryan; as well as 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her eight brothers and sisters, Margaret Wiggs, Billy Massey, Jesse Smith, James Massey, Betty Dale Martin, Jerry Massey, Jo Ann Creech and Donnie Massey.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 21, 2017, from noon until 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow in the Rosehaven Chapel, with the Rev. Garry Tanner officiating. Interment will be in Rosehaven Memorial Park.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Douglasville Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for all their love, care and support they have given them since April; Gentiva Hospice; all their pastors at West Metro Church of God, church family and friends. Your love, prayers and support during this difficult time meant more than you could ever know. May God richly bless you all.
