Gertie Mae Artis Best, 102, 478 Artis Road, Pikeville, succumbed to her Lord's call Tuesday in Kitty Askins Hospice.
She was born was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Wayne County to Leslie and Minnie Diggs Artis.
She is survived by her daughter, Ethelene Barnes of Goldsboro, N.C.; her grandchildren, Winston Best of the home, Lee Doris Palmer of Knottingham, Md., Maxine Battle of Goldsboro, N.C., and Vickie Mobley (Rick) of Goldsboro, N.C.; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The triumphant homegoing service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Her mortal frame will be laid to rest in Diggs Cemetery of Eureka.
Mother Best will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will assemble at the residence in preparation for the funeral service.
Arrangements are by Haskins Funeral Home.
