GROVER E. MITCHELL

Grover Elmore Mitchell, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Andrew Mitchell and Winniefred Whiteman Mitchell Proctor. He was married to the late Lois Pittman Mitchell, who preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 2008.
Grover retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 25 years. Grover had a huge heart, always giving and reaching out to others, there wasn't a stranger he hadn't met. He loved to make people laugh. Most would remember the joy that Grover's presence would bring.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. today, at Woods Grove PFWB Church with the Rev. Barry Teague officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his sons, Ronnie Mitchell and wife, Carolyn and Don Mitchell and wife, Lori, all of Goldsboro; daughter-in-law, Diane Mitchell of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Brad, Gabe, Tyler, Casey and April Mitchell, and Tonya Slagle; nine great-grandchildren; and his sister, Minnie Williford of Princeton.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, the Rev. Jerry Mitchell, one sister and four brothers.
The family will receive friends today following the service at the church and will be at the home of Don and Lori Mitchell at other times, 108 Delia Trail, Goldsboro.
