Robert Lindsey Andrews, 88, Staunton, Va., husband of Harriet (Forsythe) Andrews, 820 Donaghe St., died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, in Augusta Health of Fishersville.

He was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Ruffin, N.C., son of the late Melvin Brainerd and Cara Ethel (Daniels) Andrews.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Andrews was employed by Dr. Pepper Bottling Co.

He was very community minded, and was a member of the board of directors of the March of Dimes, was a volunteer for United Way and was a founding member of Valley Roadrunners.

In addition to his wife, family members include two sons, James Stephen Andrews of Phoenix, Ariz., and Phillip Garard Andrews (Ann-Marie) of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Daphne Andrews Stickley (Jeff) of Lexington and Janet Andrews Melton (Mark) of Staunton; Josie Andrews of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Allen Andrews, James David Andrews and Melvin Bushnell Andrews, and a sister, Marina "Nancy" May Andrews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, in Henry Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Hollis Dodge. Burial will be private in Thornrose Cemetery.

"Boz" was passionate about books and reading.
