Mary Lou Goodman Howard, 85, resident of the Scott's Store community of Mount Olive, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 20, 2016.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with visitation to follow.

Burial will be Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park of Pink Hill.

Family and friends are also being received at the home of Lou Ann King next to the family restaurant.

Mrs. Howard was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandma, aunt and neighbor, and she excelled at being a great person with a quiet, but pleasing, personality.

A selfless person, she always put the needs and wants of others ahead of her own.

She was faithful in working alongside her husband, whether it was farming or operating a dry cleaning business or a restaurant. Their latest entity was Johnnie's Seafood, which continues to be operated by the family.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Johnnie Ressie Howard of the home; five children, Lou Ann King and husband, Vernon, of Mount Olive, Johnnie Earl Howard and wife, Joy, of Wilson, Billy Ray Howard of Seven Springs, Edna Faye Deaver and husband, Charles, of Faison and Michael Howard and wife, Donna, of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Lora Wood, Janice Furr, Billy Shane Howard, John Clayton Howard, Amanda Deaver Pate, Lucas Deaver, Christine Butts and Sherry Lynn Grimes; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Howard also wanted to make mention of two special nieces, Carolyn G. Jernigan of Mount Olive and the late Jean G. Herring, both daughters of her late brother, Emmett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter J. and Louise Bradley Goodman; brothers, Lattie Ray "Buster" Goodman and Larry "Skinner" Goodman; and half-brother, Emmett Goodman.

The family acknowledges with grateful hearts the kind and loving care given to Mrs. Howard by granddaughter, Amanda Pate, and Michelle Montgomery and Debbie Thompson, whose efforts made her final days more pleasant.
