James Eli Murphy, 89, 416 Sardinal Drive, died Friday at SECU Hospice House of Smithfield.
Funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Gospel Tabernacle United Holiness Church, with the Rev. Richard R. Darden officiating. Burial will be in Eastern Carolina Veterans State Cemetery.
Born in Lenior County, he was the son of the late Calvin and Josephine Brown Murphy.
Four children survive.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 tonight at Garris Funeral Home chapel, with the family present 6 to 7. At other times, the family will be at 906 Sleepy Creek Road, Dudley.
