Evelyn Sutton Long, longtime resident of Fayetteville and native of the Smith Chapel community near the Mount Olive area, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 7, 2016. She was 101 years old.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Maplewood Cemetery of Mount Olive. Officiating will be Dr. H. Dennis Draper Jr.

Visitation for family and friends will be at the funeral home during the hour before the service.

Memorial gifts may be made to Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Kim Sullivan, 4615 Giddensville Road, Faison, N.C., 28341, or the charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Long proudly served her country in the United States Army during the World War II era, followed by civilian service for several years.

Her civilian career included that of being activities director for a nursing home.

She was a member of Hay Street United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.

Preceded in death by her parents, Charles Thomas Sutton and Effie King Sutton; two sisters, Helen Sutton Bell and Mildred Sutton Caison; and a brother, Charles Thomas Sutton Jr.; she is survived by several nieces and nephews, including nephew Gregory Caison of Fayetteville.
