ROBERT PERRY HYDE

Mr. Robert Perry Hyde, 91, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, in the University of North Carolina Hospital at Chapel Hill.
Robert was born in Edgecombe County, son to the late George Lewis Hyde and Mary Elizabeth Lamb Hyde.
He joined the United States Army in 1943, receiving his pilot's license. He served as a mechanic and gunner on a B-25 bomber in the 490th Squadron Burma Bridge Buster during World War II. He was also a gunnery instructor.
After the war, he worked as an electrical engineer and inspector with the Army Corps of Engineers before retiring.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margery Evelyn Pliner Hyde; five sisters; and two brothers.
Mr. Hyde was loved by many, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children, Robert Joseph Hyde and wife, Jeanette, of Goldsboro, George David Hyde and wife, Dian, of Fayetteville, Allen Lee Hyde and wife, Eugenia, of St. Pauls, Mary Evelyn Johnson of Fayetteville and Betty Hyde Gillis and husband, Joseph, of Fayetteville; a sister, Artie Hyde Hamm of Rocky Mount, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held 1 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, at Galatia Presbyterian Church parlor, 8800 Galatia Church Road, Fayetteville, N.C., 28304.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., following the visitation, with pastor Brett Johnson and pastor Fred Crank officiating.
Burial will follow in Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
