HELEN NEAL MERRITT
June 13, 1933-April 12, 2016
Helen Elizabeth Neal Merritt, 82, Goldsboro, passed away early Tuesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Helen was born in Wayne County June 13, 1933, to the late William Emmitt Neal and Bessie Hollowell Neal.
She was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church, and sang in the choir for many years.
Helen always enjoyed gardening, working with flowers and teaching tole painting classes.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 15, 2016, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, followed by a service celebrating Helen's life at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Madison Hankal officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Helen is survived by her husband of 63 years, William A. "Bill" Merritt Sr.; son, William A. "Bill" Merritt Jr. and wife, Sheryl, of Odessa, Fla.; daughters, Jeanee M. Wheeler of Rosewood and Seslie M. Roughton and husband, Kevin, of Nashville; grandchildren, Britttan W. Bibb and husband, Cameron, Morgan Wheeler, Jared Merritt, Kelsey Merritt and Peyton, Mallory, Carsyn and Addison Roughton; and great-grandchildren, Elliana Bibb and Elijah Bibb.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Marianna Neal and Bonnie Neal, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Martha Lynn; sister, Melva Jean Pelt; and brothers, William Joseph Neal and Shelton Neal, and an infant brother, James Robert Merritt.
Although flowers are welcome, the family requests memorials be made to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 N.C. 581 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
