Maureen Patricia Cox West, 82, died Monday at home surrounded by her loving family.
Maureen was born in Paddington, London, April 19, 1933, to the late Charles Fredrick and Eileen Cox.
Her "heaven on Earth" was her hometown of Margate in the Shire county of Kent, England.
While in England, Maureen met the love of her life, Dale Edmund West, and shared 61 devoted years of marriage.
Maureen's other loves were those of nature, the North Carolina mountains and her fond childhood memories of her beloved brother, Brian.
Maureen and Brian grew up during the Battle of Britain during World War II.
When Maureen came to the states, she made many special friends while working at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base at Foodland at the Base Exchange and volunteering at the Thrift Shop.
A service celebrating Maureen's life will be held Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with Chaplain Robert Fulkerson officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service.
In addition to her parents and stepfather, John Wood, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Edmund West.
Maureen is survived by her brother, Brian Cox, and nephew, Martin Cox and wife, Nina, and Mrs. Toni Gigg and husband, Mel, of Whitney, Oxfordshire, England; sons, Robert West and special friend, Rosa Bennett, of New Bern, Brian West and wife, Angela, of Clayton and Michael West and wife, Stephanie, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Blake Quin and husband, Dylan, Brianna West, Hunter Dean, Rachel West, Michael West, Alyssa West and Garrett West; and great-grandchildren, Bryce Lee, James Quinn, Devin Logan and Lydia Quinn.
