John William Garris, 77, LaGrange, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016.
John was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Lenoir County to the late Barney Jack Garris and Bertha Wade Garris.
He proudly served his country with the United States Army, and retired from Wayne County Public Schools, where he worked as a mechanic for almost 30 years.
John enjoyed traveling, and his favorite places to visit were Cherokee, Atlantic City and Mississippi.
John loved piddling in his yard and shop.
His happiest moments were when spending time with his daughter, Johnna.
A service to celebrate and honor John's life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony McLamb officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
John is survived by his daughter and the apple of his eye, Johnna Garris, and her mother, Paula of LaGrange, and two sisters, Irma Moore of Seven Springs and Edith Ansel of Kansas.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a special aunt, Myrtle Garris, and three brothers, Earl Garris, Douglas Garris and Ernest Garris.
John's family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
