Died Dec. 17, 2015
Sgt. 1st Class Robert Earl "Bob" Gay Sr., 84, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, Bob was the son of the late Benjamin "Benny" H. Gay and Annie Rouse Gay.
Bob retired June 30, 1991, as a staff sergeant with the North Carolina Army National Guard, Company C (Med) 230th Support Battalion, with 42 years of service.
He also retired from Goldsboro Fruit and Salvage, where he was employed with James Kannon for 50 years.
A service celebrating Bob's life will be held Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
Interment will be Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Linda Gay Pate and husband, Bill, Janice Gay Bedford and husband, Phil, and Donna Gay Potter; son, Robert Earl Gay III and wife, Tiffanie; grandchildren, Lindsay Pate Lipcsak and husband, Austin, and Jake Potter and wife, Lauren; great-grandchildren, Hanna Gay and Ryan Gay; best canine buddy, Pete; brothers, Nick Gay, Buck Gay and wife, Wendy; and sisters, Barbara Thigpen and husband, Johnny, Margaret Smith and husband, Bill (a special brother-in-law).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Waters Gay; son, Robert Earl Gay Jr.; and brothers, Carl Gay, John Gay and Charles Gay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to one's favorite charity in memory of Robert Earl "Bob" Gay Sr.
