ELDER JERRY JONES

Elder Jerry Jones, 68, son of the late Ms. Daisy Magdalene Jones and Andrew Phillips, was born Jan. 15, 1947, in Wayne County, and went home to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 23, 2015.
He graduated from Dillard High School in 1965.
Visitation will be held at First African Baptist Church, 803 Harris St., Oct. 31, 2015, from noon to 1 p.m., with the family present. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 30, at the residence at 803 National Drive.
The funeral service will follow beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park North on Old Grantham Road.
Jerry began his career at SPX Transformer Solutions (formerly known as Waukesha Electric and Hevi-Duty) Oct. 7, 1968. He was employed there for 44 years as a grinder, painter and CNC machine operator, and retired from there Jan. 18, 2013.
Prior to SPX, Jerry held a job at Frito Lay in Greenville, N.C., and then at J.P. Taylor tobacco factory as a machine operator for six years. During his employment at SPX, he received plant-wide recognition for his part in making positive changes to manufacturing practices. He was also awarded a company-sponsored award for his recommendations.
He was united in marriage to Helen Gold Parker April 5 in 1980, and added to their union two lovely children, Pamela Victoria and Jerry Alexander Jones.
After their marriage, they both served in the Cape Fear AME Zion Conference on the Wilson district.
Anointed by God from a child up, he accepted Christ as his personal savior. He was a faithful and dedicated musician for Elroy Community Male Chorus, Stanley Chapel Free Will Baptist in Mount Olive, N.C.; Payne Temple AME Zion in Mount Olive, N.C.; Central Heights Free Will Baptist in Goldsboro, N.C.; Hill's Chapel in Faison, N.C.; Parker's Chapel Original Free Will Baptist in Goldsboro, N.C.; and Lovick's Chapel AME Zion in LaGrange, N.C.
Jerry was called into the ministry and later pastorship.
After being called into the ministry, he attended William Carter School of Theology from 1982 to 1985.
He served as spiritual overseer for Pyatts Chapel AME Zion in Elm City, N.C., St. Matthews AME Zion Church in Goldsboro, N.C., St. Joseph AME Zion Church in Fremont, N.C., St. John AME Zion Church in Dudley, N.C., and Lovick's Chapel AME Zion Church in LaGrange, N.C., and was the acting pastor of Christ Chapel AME Zion Church in LaGrange, N.C., at the time of his death.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Pamela Victoria Jones; one son, Jerry Alexander Jones Jr.; nine brothers, Kenneth Jones, Larnell Jones and Terry Hernandez all of Goldsboro, N.C., Anthony Jones (Carolyn) of Clayton, N.C., Samuel Jones of Virginia Beach, Va., Andrew Phillips Jr. (Jackie) of Goldsboro, N.C., Harold Phillips of Raleigh, N.C., and Mitchell Phillips and Keith Phillips both of Goldsboro, N.C.; six sisters, the Rev. Barbara Blankenship (Andrew) of Goose Creek, S.C., the Rev. Janette Jones (Jerry) of Bellevue, Neb., Sandra Phillips, Patricia Ellison and Anita Phillips-Harris (Richard) all of Goldsboro, N.C., and Claudia Johnson (William) of Hampton, Va.; two aunts, Wilma Lee Harvey and Bessie Jones both of Goldsboro, N.C.; one uncle, Linwood Jones of Goldsboro, N.C.; a special goddaughter, Ashley Smith of Fremont, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
