Dallas Steven Byrd, 81, Mount Olive, died late Monday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jean Outlaw Byrd; his children, Lynn Byrd Owens of Wilson and Kimberly Kornegay, Swindell Kornegay Jr. and Randy Kornegay all of Mount Olive.

He is also survived by a sister, Helen P. Jackson of Mount Olive; four brothers, Thomas "Mitchell" Byrd and his wife, Janet, of Cary, Stanley Byrd and his wife, Ann Douglas, of Mount Olive, Kenneth "Speck" Byrd and his wife, Gail, of Mount Olive and Jimmy Byrd of Faison; five grandchildren, Amanda Anderson, Christy Gardner, Justin Gardner and his wife, Natalie, John Robert Overton and his wife, Cassie, and Pamela Kornegay; and three great-grandchildren, Annalyn Gardner, Arianna and Kaylee Overton.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Virginia S. Chestnutt Byrd; his first wife, Christine Kilpatrick Byrd; a daughter, Terry B. Anderson; a grandson, Brandon Jennette; and two sons-in-law, Randy Anderson and Brooks Owens.

Dallas will be fondly remembered for spending 42 years with Mt. Olive Pickle Co. as a truck driver and his outgoing personality, his love of life and especially for his family.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening form 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times, at the Byrd residence located on Jean Street in Mount Olive.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to Rones Chapel United Methodist Church or to the charity of one's choice.
