Joan Smith Keel, 64, Swansboro, passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015.

Joan was born Aug. 10, 1951, in Wayne County to the late Johnnie H. Smith and Mina Head Smith.

Joan had worked in the banking industry most of her adult life, and was presently working with Bank of America in Swansboro.

A people person by nature, Joan was very loving and outgoing. Her smile would brighten any room.

She took great pride in taking care of her family and her customers. Her words of wisdom and warm hugs will be forever missed.

Joan loved cooking. Her pumpkin roll and country-style steak were always family favorites. She enjoyed reading, and her soap operas were an everyday must-see event. She will be greatly missed by all, and will continue to live in the hearts of her family.

A service to celebrate and honor Joan's life will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with pastor Barry Teague officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Joan cherished her family, and is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sherry Keel Reynolds and husband, Trevor, of Burlington; someone she thought of as a daughter and helped raise, Belinda Smith and husband, Rodney, of Seven Springs; two grandchildren, Amy Jo Smith and Justin Smith; three great-grandchildren, Thad Wood, Brady Wood and Daniel Brown; two grandpets, Cheyenne and Ushi; six siblings, Glennie Jenkins of Goldsboro, A.P. Smith of LaGrange, John Wayne Smith and wife, Kathryn, of Kinston, Judy Parrott of LaGrange, Linda Sutton of LaGrange and Vicky Jordan and husband, J.R., of Goldsboro; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Jo Keel.

Joan's family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times, the family will be at the home of Mike and Kim House, 403 Firetower Road, LaGrange.
