ELBERT RAY OVERTON

Elbert Ray Overton Sr., 70, 401 Lee's Country Club Road, Mount Olive, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Born Aug. 7, 1945, in Wayne County, he was the son of Martha Gurganus Overton and the late Roy Junious Overton.
He was owner and operator of Dudley Plumbing, and he will be fondly remembered for his love of NASCAR racing and watching westerns.
Most important to Elbert were his granddaughters, Morgan and Kristen Powell, whom he regarded as his angels.
Elbert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Annie Ruth Daniels Overton; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie O. and Allen Powell of Grantham; a son, Ray Overton of the home; granddaughters, Morgan and Kristen Powell of Grantham; his mother, Martha Overton of Mount Olive; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Robert and Shirley C. Overton of Mount Olive; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen O. and George Summerlin of Dudley; and several nephews.
A service to remember Elbert will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, at 2:30 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, followed by burial at Wayne Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at the funeral home during the hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Billy Overton, Kenny Overton, Leslie Vinson, Adam Pridgen, Mitchell Thigpen and Zachary Faulk.
Flowers are welcome, but memorial donations can be made to Jones Grove Church, 1049 Country Club Road, Mount Olive, N.C.
