EDNA EARLE NAYLOR CRUMPLER

Edna Earle Naylor Crumpler, 78, of Dunn died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at her home.

She was born Oct. 27, 1936, and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Crumpler Sr., and her parents, Garvice (Buck) and Cleo Naylor.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Crumpler Benton and her husband, Kenneth E. Benton, of Goldsboro; and her son, Charles W. Crumpler Jr., his wife, Melanie G. Crumpler, and their children, Charles W. Crumpler III, Elizabeth Kimberly Crumpler and Jackson Lucas Crumpler, of Dunn.

Edna is also survived by two brothers, A.Z. Naylor and his wife, Kathy, of Charlotte, G.W. Naylor and his wife, Catherine, of Concord; two special aunts, Eunice Strickland Naylor of Dunn and Frances Naylor Long of Wilmington; sister-in-laws, Hazel C. McMillan and Joyce C. Crump; and a brother-in-law, Earl B. Crumpler.

Edna was a graduate of Highsmith Rainey Nursing School.

She worked in Fayetteville at Highsmith Rainey Hospital in labor and delivery.

After a short time, she went to work at Highland OB-GYN Clinic as a registered nurse with Dr. Richard Snipes until his retirement.

She continued to work at Highland Clinic until her retirement at 71 years old.

She was an excellent nurse and loved her patients, and her patients loved her.

She enjoyed travel. No destination was too far. She visited 49 of the 50 states, and the major eastern European countries and South America.

One of the highlights of her travels to South America was taking a helicopter excursion from the cruise ship to see the penguins of Antarctica.

Edna was a reader and enjoyed a good historical fiction work or a mystery and crime novel.

Her penmanship was excellent, every letter formed to perfection.

In the last year, Edna served as a volunteer literacy tutor and was proud to report of the significant gains made by the adult learner she tutored.

Edna was actively involved in her church, Spring Branch Baptist Church.

She was active in her Sunday school class and was the secretary for the Keenagers.

Edna took great pleasure in her involvement with the members of her church.

She was also active with the senior citizens that met at the center in the Mingo community.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 15, at Spring Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. V. Martin Groover and the Rev. Dr. Kenneth E. Benton.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday Sept. 14, at Skinner and Smith Funeral Home.

Flowers are welcome.

Memorial gifts may be sent to Spring Branch Baptist Church, 2391 N. Spring Branch Road, Dunn N.C., to the Keenagers Fund in memory of Edna Crumpler.
