JAMES MELVIN HARPER

James Melvin Harper, 75, Durham, formerly of Goldsboro, passed from labor to reward Sunday in Durham Regional Hospital in Durham.

He was born June 9, 1940.

Melvin, as he was affectionately called, was the third of five children born to the late John and Donnie Harper.

His life and service to God and mankind will be celebrated Monday at noon at Bear Creek Association, with the Rev. Harold Warren officiating. His mortal frame will be entombed in Wayne Memorial Park.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his faithful and devoted wife, Sandra King Harper of Durham, N.C.

In this union, a blended family was formed consisting of one son, Sierra Harper (Donna) of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Pamela Terrell (Conley) of Romeoville, Ill., and Kimberly Harper James (Micheal) of Greensboro, N.C.; two stepsons, J. Hans Johnson Sr. (Alicia) of Morrisville, N.C., and Honesty Johnson of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, the honorable John Harper Jr. (Beulah "Beja") of Southbridge, Va.; two sisters, Geraldine "Gerri" Sherard of Goldsboro, N.C., and Joyce "Ludy" Stanford (Peter) of Princess Anne, Md.; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family present to receive friends will be held one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at other times at 123 Susan Circle, where it will assemble in preparation for the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that tributes/memorial donations in memory of Melvin be made either to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
