ESTHER BARTLETT GARDNER

Esther Bartlett Gardner, 77, Pikeville, passed away Saturday afternoon at Duke Medical Center.
Esther was born in Wayne County April 2, 1938, to the late Milton L. and Mamie Tillman Bartlett. She was married to the late J.C. Gardner.
Esther worked for many years as a teacher's assistant with Wayne County Public Schools, and was a member of the Teacher's Assistant Association of Wayne County and the North Carolina Association of Teacher's Assistants.
She dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord. She was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Reynolds Smith and the Rev. Dock Hobbs officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Esther is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky Stafford and special friend, Glenn Brogden, of Pikeville, Debbie and Roger Pope of Kenly and Amanda and Billy Capps of Goldsboro; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Teresa Gardner of Goldsboro; sister, Shirley Bedford and husband, J.A., of Goldsboro; brother, Paul Bartlett and wife, Joyce, of Pikeville; her grandchildren, Brandon Stafford, Ellen Rose Pope, Kayla Capps and Danny Capps, Tyler Gardner and wife, Jessica, and Lauren Gardner; and great-grandchildren, Jayden Gardner and Adalynn Gardner.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Bartlett, and sisters, Evelyn Hines, Grace Rose and Audrey Fleming.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church, and at other times, at the home of Roger and Debbie Pope, 4799 N.C. 222 East, Kenly, N.C.
