Mr. Wayne Hill, 84, Snow Hill, went to be with his Lord Thursday morning, Feb. 26, 2015.
A native of Greene County, he was born Sept. 28, 1930, the son of John and Florence Rouse Hill.
Following service in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he returned to Greene County, where he was a farmer and carpenter by trade.
Mr. Hill was a very active part of the Shine community, where he had been a charter member of Shine Fire Department when it was established and built in 1962.
A member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, he was very active in the church, having served in many capacities through the years until his health began to decline, especially as the church caretaker, maintaining its landscaping and ensuring the sanctuary was open well before the time of church activities and services.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Chase Hill, who died July 5, 2007, and his sister, Alice Jones.
His surviving family includes his daughter, Sharon Hill Gay and husband, Ricky, of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Sherwood Gay of Snow Hill and Tonya Gay Perry and husband, Lee, of Snow Hill; great-grandchildren, Austin Gay, Caleb Gay, Wyatt Perry and Lee Perry; and his siblings, Lillian Stroud, Floyd Hill, Geraldine Tyndall and Envid Hill all of Snow Hill, Carol Rager, Bobby Hill, Bruce Hill and John Hill all of Florida and Jane Bennett of Indiana.
A service celebrating Mr. Hill's life will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Danny Hamm officiating. Committal services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening immediately following the service and other times at Mr. Hill's residence.
